Inside Heklina's Closet

[design direction, design + development]. A deep dive into the fashion and history inside of late S.F. drag icon Heklina's closet. I led the design and development of this piece and built the page out with the help of one other designer.

Zone Zero

[illustration, design + development]. A graphic explainer of California's Zone Zero regulations, designed to improve fire safety for homes in high wildfire risk areas. I illustrated, designed and coded the page. This project received two awards of excellence at the Society for News Design Creative Competition in 2026.

Top 100 Restaurants 2025

[design + development]. A ranked list from Chronicle food critics on where to eat in the Bay Area. I designed and built core features of the guide, including the topper and map. I also collaborated with three other designers to come up with the overall vision for the list. This project received a silver medal and two awards of excellence at the Society for News Design Creative Competition in 2026.

California College Admissions Guide

[branding + design + development]. A data-driven guide to UC, CSU and community college admissions. I helped Hearst DevHub’s director of visual storytelling develop the overall design and organization of the guide. I then built several features on this product including a timeline that automatically updates. This project received two awards of excellence at the Society for News Design Creative Competition in 2025.

Japantown Incarceration

[editing + design + development]. An analysis and visualization of how Franklin D. Roosevelt's Executive Order 9066 affected San Francisco's Japantown. I led the design direction and development of this piece. This project received two bronze medals and an award of excellence at the Society for News Design Creative Competition in 2025. It is also an ONA Online Journalism Awards winner [visual digital storytelling] and an AAJA Journalism Excellence Awards finalist [immersive storytelling].

The Killing of Richard Oakes

[animation + design + development]. A multimedia piece diving into the story of Native-American activist Richard Oakes and how the justice system failed him. I worked with another designer/developer to art direct, design and animate the page. This project received two awards of excellence at the Society for News Design Creative Competition in 2024. It is also an ONA Online Journalism Awards winner [topical reporting: race, ethnicity, gender and identity].

Pasta Dictionary

[design + development]. A browseable encyclopedia of 50 pasta shapes and their origins. I organized a design sprint with the design, food and visuals teams to conceptualize the format of the project. I then synthesized the ideas from the sprint and built the dictionary component using D3 and React.
